How to update material database?
How to update material database?
After looking at around online and even at my help menu in WUFI, I do not think that I have the most up-to-date material database. I have been searching for how to update this and am having no luck. If anyone can offer any help it would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Lizzy,
if you download WUFI® 4.1 ORNL for free you will the have the latest material database.

The link is disconnected at this time but should be connected this week.
Best Regards

Manfred,
Well I guess I had the most updated material database. After verifying that I have WUFI 4.0 I went back into the database and under the Generic data base there are very few things listed. Then under Generic North American Database there is a longer list, but still not what I was looking for. I am looking at a wall at a hospital in Dallas, Texas and it has steel framing. Am I going to have to get all the properties of the steel framing in order to evaluate this wall? I guess I was just surprised that this was not an optional material. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do or if I just need to go ahead and try to get this information on my own.
Thanks again,
Lizzy

Update material Properties
Lizzy,
You will need to approximate your steel element with another material. Selecting one is tricky but for steel that should not be such a problem. The issue is that WUFI 4.1 is 1-D model, and your steel frame system is not usually a 1-D problem.
However what you can do is run cases with and without the metal frame and obtain a lower and upper bounds.

Achilles,
Thanks for responding. I guess my only other question is concerning WUFI 3.2 which is what I believe we purchased and I learned to use when I came to the seminar a few years ago. I thought that this was a 2D model. Is the material database different for that version? Sorry to keep asking about this. Just trying to figure out if there is anyway to analyze this exterior wall or not.
Thanks,
Lizzy

Reply to WUFI 3.2
Hi Lizzy,
WUFI 3.2 is a 1-D version. All material properties should be identical other than in 2-D, the x- and y- cartesian coordinates can have different transport properties for the thermal transport. The sorption and suction isotherms are exactly the same.
I still think you can analyze the wall except you will need to approximate the 2-D geometries.
