Out of Memory Error

Post by Akshay »

Hi

I am using WUFI 2D 3.3 for modelling a typical insulated timber roof. The program is showing me an error "Out of Memory". My hard disk has enough space in all the drives. Please help why I have this error.

Thanks

Hello Akshay,

this message is about the ram, not the harddrives.
Try to reduce the number of grid elements and reduce the Result File elements to RH and temp and see if that is helping..

When does this message appear, how many grid elements do you have?

Hi Christian

I have a grid of 104X140 elements. The grid size was decidd to keep Exp. Fac. between 0.5 and 2. If I reduce the grid size, it will increase the Exp. Fac. which I remember u said (on my email earlier) if outside the said range will give wrong results. Should I make the grid lighter without thinking much about Exp. Fac?

Thanks

Hi Akshay,

I know, yes you should care about the exp. factor.
But please try if the reason is the grid...

When does the message appear?

Christian,

I am trying now with a new grid size of 70X140. The simulation stopped at 93% of the 5 year time period (43800 timesteps).

Yes... For the original grid of 104X140, the message appeared at 93% when simulation period was 5 yrs (43800 time steps)

Mhhh, interesting...
Where does the message appear? In the calculation window or is it an extra window?

It appeared like an error message in a separate window. The message was "Out of Memory" and the simulation was suspended. when I resumed the same appeared again and again.

Save the calculation and tell me the size of the *.wfd-file.
Probably you have a quota on your drive with the cache-directory...

Unfortunately... I could not save the file at all. all the options to open, close or save options were greyed (inactive).... so had to close the program which also did not happen as it asked to terminate the program which was already terminated but may be system was not reading it as terminated and I have to forcefully close the program from task manager after waiting 1 hour.

Hi Christian

I have mailed you the WUFI file and the climate file. Please advice me what can be done to solve the error.

Thanks

Hi Christian,

I am having a similar issue. I got an 'out of memory' error when the calculation was 63% complete and I am unable to save the file as all options have greyed out; I have enough RAM memory.
I am analysing a rain-screen construction, some of the elements in the detail are quite narrow. I have the grid set to medium in both x and y directions with maximum number of elements in both directions set at 100. I have attached the detail that I have modelled. I am happy to share the wufi file with you if you are able to have a look at it.

Many thanks,
Sindhu

Dear Shindu,

do you have enough space on the drive with the cachedirectory?
See in the menu: Options -> Settings

Hi guys,
I will assume this problem is still not fixed, or is it?
Because I'm still getting the named error after many trials and I also made the adjustments Christian told Akshay to try but always ended unsuccesfully.
In the beggining of my master thesis I could get some good results and all fine but then after some details/projects this error started appearing (sometimes in the beggining of the calculation, sometimes in the middle) and for a few times now it stops just about 0.7 seconds before finishing, making it unpossible for me to save the results :(

Thanks a lot in advance and stay healthy,
Aulona
