Mold Sensitivity classes for glass mat gypsum products

Post by Michael Hurd »

Does anyone know the appropriate mold sensitivity class for products like Dens Glas gold exterior sheathing? Included in this category would also be other glass mat faced interior gypsum products, all of which have been treated for mold resistance and score a 10 in the ASTM testing for resistance. Trying out the new ASHRAE 160 VTT mold prediction and need some guidance. Similar question for insulation products such as fiberglass batts.

Hello Michael,
I think all we have today are the tables in SPC 160 where you should find proper values for gypsum and fiber glass, remember that paper facers are different.

Manfred,
Can you please explain what SPC 160 is? ASHRAE 160 does not have such values, so I assume you are not referring to that.
The WUFI VTT 2.1 interface has "pure gypsum or lime render" under "Other materials." That seems to be the closest match to a PAPERLESS gypsum product such as DensGlass.
Can you please confirm?

I will use the pure gypsum one and then switch to the one with organic matter to see how sensitive the construction is, if that makes sense.

Hi, there are only few values in ASHRAE 160 - however, the other settings in WUFI VTT (for example "pure gypsum or lime render") are directly agreed with Viitanen and Ojanen from VTT - and should therefore be rather reliable.
