AFAIK the problem with Meteonorm is that it doesn't have driving rail data either

Let me correct you: Meteonorm contains normal rain and wind. Only the relation between these both values may be wrong. But it is better then a fill without any rain. You have to use it with care.
Maybe contact Joseph, he recently did a comparison between Meteonorm and measured climate data for Ireland.

Hi all,

I am wondering if there has been any update as to which weather data source is best for Ireland? I see there is a 'shiny weather data' website that was recommended for Northern Europe but I am unsure which would be best. Driving rain is a very important component for my research (looking at cavity walls and pumped insulation in Ireland for my university thesis).

Hi Ava,
WUFI Pro 7 now includes a climate file for Irland (Dublin) and four files for UK (London, Glasgow, Manchester and Southampton).

You can easily download the hourly temp and RH data for 5 years for any of the major Met Éireann stations from the website here: https://www.met.ie/climate/available-da ... rical-data

Unfortunately, you can't actually use it to create a WAC file unless you are using Windows on a PC as some elements of the WUFI template won't work on the online or Mac versions of Excel... very frustrating.

there are only a few stations which provide hourly values and as far as I can see they do not include short wave radiation nor atmospheric counter radiation.

For past years, Met Eireann can (on request) provide solar radiation (horizontal and diffuse) for their weather stations. Together with their historic data, you can create WUFI climate files. I'm waiting for a peek at the WUFI 7 Dublin climate - what was the basis for creation?

Also, as a point of note - I've compared Meteonorm with Met Eireann data for 2024, and find it overestimates solar radiation drastically, up to three-fold...

Hi Anna,

the Dublin HRY was developed, following the algorithm from the project „Klimamodelle“ which was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. The weather files are based on ERA5 re-analysis data for Dublin from the period 2012 to 2022.

The typical reference year was chosen mainly on base of air temperature and rain water loads. The following months from the period are used:
January 2016,February 2020,March 2014,April 2015,May 2017,June 2022,July 2016,August 2017,September 2020,October 2015,November 2021,December 2021

The monthly transitions are numerically smoothed. Average air temperature: 9.9 °C; normal rain sum 869.2 mm/a; global radiation sum (on horizontal surface) 1061 kWh/m²a.
