hemp-lime, new materials & stucco

Post by josephbeag »

Hi
Has anyone created an entry for hemp-lime in the WUFI materials database?

Is there any exchange (between users) available or updates (from WUFI) for other 'new' materials? I bought my copy of WUFI Pro 4.2 in February.

Also in the WUFI materials database lime plaster (stucco) is refered to. Does the stucco simply mean it is applied wet as opposed to being a board?

Vielen dank.

HI,

I am studying on a masters course at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales UK, where many students are researching hemp/lime. If you would like i can put you in touch with some students/tutors that have been trying to define the values. Also Peter Walker at Bath University in England has done loads of research into hemp lime and may be able to help you. Contacting Tradical may also help: http://www.lhoist.co.uk/tradical/index.html values for each mix of hemp lime will vary but they may be able to give good enough values to get trends in wufi

hope this helps

hemp-lime data

Post by josephbeag »

Hi Dan,
I would be very interested in contacting anyone at CAT or Peter Walker at Bath to gain access to data that can be used in WUFI. I would greatly appreciate any and all email addresses and names for that.

Many thanks.

Hi

The main person to contact at CAT regarding hemp lime is Ranyl Rhydwen, he wrote his PhD thesis on it and also has an interest in WUFI. Many of the students are researching it for their masters’ theses and he will be able to point you in the right direction. Mention my name, he knows me. : ranyl.rhydwen@cat.org.uk

Prof. Peter Walker is in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at Bath Uni, he wrote a book with Tom Woolley on Hemp lime last year and is also the Director of the Building Research Establishment's Centre in Innovative Construction Materials. He doesn't know me, but obviously knows Tom Woolley who is a Prof at CAT.

Hope this helps, let me know how you get on as I'm interested in simulating it too. Other binders may also be worth looking at as the embodied energy of lime is currently high due to production techniques, even though it can be created in biomass kilns.

Good Luck

hemp-lime inputs

Post by josephbeag »

Hi Dan,
I've just got the WUFI inputs for Tradical hemcrete from Lime Technology themselves. Give me a few days and I'll try to export it to you (have top figure that out first too).

Joseph

Hi Joseph,

excellent work!!!

I look forward to it. If you save a hemp/lime simulation without the film then it can be emailed easily, you might have to save it before running it, look at the file sizes.

I am also trying to simulate some UK bricks, any ideas??

Regards

hemp-lime, new materials & stucco

Hi Dan,
I spoke too quick. There are a number of aspects of a WUFI file, such as moisture-related conductivities etc, that the info they gave me doesn't include. I have got onto them to see if they have a full WUFI material file.

Hi Joseph,

I have had the same problem with adding UK bricks, WUFI needs lots of values that are often not even tested for.

Have you spoken to Prof Tom Woolley? He is based in Ireland and is a hemp lime fanatic!

Best

Dan

Hygric properties for Hemp

Post by Kruti »

Hi there,
I need a help with creating hemp-lime material in WUFI material database.I have all the thermal properties of this material, what I am looking for is the values for hygrothermal functions like moisture storage fuctions etc which I belive will be of great important to get right result.
This material has been used to insulate externallly as well as internally. Externally it will be protected from rain.
Any suggestions on the moisture related functions for this materials will be appreciated.
Regards
Kruti
