Simulating 2D problems in Wufi Pro 4.2

Post by Peter Brander »

As I understand the only way to simulate mixed materials in a 1D program (brick walls, wooden framework with insulation) is to invent a new material with mixed properties.

When i calculate wooden framwork with insulation I have chosen mineral wool and added moisture capacity equivalent to 5% wood (the frame itself is about 15% but i have considered that not all wood will have time to interact in the system due to wood dimensions.

Is this a good way to aproach the problem or am I going in the wrong direction. All input is of interest

Hallo Peter,
I´m don´t think you will get realistic results by combining the wood and the insulation. The moisture storage and transport of both of the materials is completely different. But to get an idea, what happens in the wood and in the insulation you can perform two different calculations. One at the cross section of the wood and one at the insulation. Usually the section at the insulation is the deciding one. If you need the interaction between the wood and the insulation, the best way will be using Wufi 2D.

The only thing I´m faking is the moisture capacity in the mineral woll similar to how airgaps is manipulated. But I will discuss a new purchase of 2D versions with my staff manager.
